Andy Rooney leaving '60 Minutes': CBS on This Sunday
With 1,096 essays for "60 Minutes" under his belt, Andy Rooney will deliver his 1,097th on Sunday's broadcast. And it will be his last as a regular contributor.
The 92-year-old Rooney will announce his departure at the end of the program, where he has been featured since 1978, CBS News announced on Tuesday. It will be preceded by a segment in which Rooney looks back on his career with "60 Minutes" correspondent Morley Safer.
"There's nobody like Andy and there never will be," said Jeff Fager, chairman of CBS News and "60 Minutes" executive producer.
He called Rooney's contributions to the program "immeasurable," and added, "It's harder for him to do it every week, but he will always have the ability to speak his mind on '60 Minutes' when the urge hits him."
Rooney began speaking his mind on "60 Minutes" in July 1978 with an essay about misleading reporting of automobile fatalities on the Independence Day weekend.
"Car for car," argued Rooney, "it's one of the safest weekends of the year to be going someplace." In fact, fewer people die of all causes on that weekend than at most other times, his research told him. And since "fewer people are watching television over the Fourth," he added, "I suppose fewer die of boredom."
He was a tender 59 years old, and, that fall, he became a regular contributor, delivering sometimes folksy, sometimes peppery observations on ordinary life under the title, "A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney."
Nancy Grace Suffered her slip nipple Wardrobe Malfunction @ Twitter [VIDEO]
Nancy Grace showed Nicki Minaj level nip during last night’s appearance on DWTS. Her chest was so precariously stuffed into her dress that after her dip at the end of the dance the right one popped out. For about a second you could see half of her saucer sized areola (at :30 into the clip above). The camera panned to the audience to cover up for it, and then Nancy recovered and adjusted herself. Host Tom Bergeron laughed and said “That’s all right, on the European version that would be perfectly fine.” Only this isn’t the European version and won’t someone please think of the children? They’re already traumatized and confused by a transgender dude dancing who somehow has the agenda of “tearing down traditional families.” It’s not gratuitous violence we should be shielding them from, it’s boobs!

UFC 135 Results: Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson Fight Video Highlights
In preliminary action earlier in the evening, James Te Huna knocked out Ricardo Romero with punches in the first round. Romero reacted very poorly to getting hit and was rendered unconscious by punches as he shot in for a takedown. Takeya Mizugaki defeated Cole Escovedo via second round TKO. The fight was competitive until Mizugaki took over with strikes in the second round and the referee called off the bout. Junior Assuncao beat Eddie Yagin via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26). The fight was dull and the crowd reacted negatively to it. Assuncao dominated the standup and ground game.
In the first Spike TV bout, Tim Boetsch defeated Nick Ring via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27). Ring had some success in the standup early but Boetsch took over as the fight progressed. Boetsch generally got the better of the striking over time and mixed in takedowns including a beautiful judo throw to take the decision. In the other Spike TV bout, Tony Ferguson defeated Aaron Riley via TKO after the first round. Ferguson broke Riley's jaw with an uppercut and the fight was stopped between rounds.
Nate Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi
This opens the pay-per-view portion of the card. Gomi had a classic bout in Pride with Nate's brother Nick. Nick won and Gomi is gunning for revenge of sorts in this contest. Diaz has solid standup and an excellent submission game, while Gomi is primarily a power puncher.
Round 1. Nate Diaz opens by peppering Gomi with his jab. Gomi tries to land some big overhand punches but Diaz is able to avoid them with ease. Diaz staggers Gomi with a straight punch but Gomi is fine. Diaz continues nailing Gomi with straight punches and Gomi just can't figure out Diaz's reach advantage. After Diaz punishes Gomi with continual jabs, Gomi shoots for a desperation takedown. Diaz immediately works for a triangle choke. Gomi moves back to avoid danger and Diaz transitions into an armbar for the submission. Diaz looked phenomenal here.
Winner: Nate Diaz, submission, round 1.
Rob Broughton vs. Travis Browne
Broughton is a British heavyweight fighter with a well rounded game. Browne is an undefeated Hawaiian with strong striking.
Round 1. The action is slow at the start. Broughton, a shorter man with less physical definition, has trouble getting at Browne with punches. Browne is able to land some punches from distance but for the most part it's a stalemate. Towards the end of the round, Browne gets a takedown and mounts Broughton. He fires down punches at the close of the round. 10-9 Browne.
Round 2. The standup is again tentative. Browne lands a few nice punches and then scores a takedown. He works over Broughton with strikes as the round progresses. Broughton isn't able to mount any offense from the bottom or threaten with any submissions. 10-9 Browne.
Round 3. Browne again goes for a takedown. He throws some punches from the top, and works into better position. He briefly has Broughton mounted but Broughton works Browne back into his guard. Broughton looks for a kimura from the bottom and pulls it out, but Browne transitions into side control to avoid the submission. Browne throws a few additional punches as the round comes to a close. 10-9 Browne. Browne took the fight clearly but was unimpressive in the process and likely lowered his stock with many.
Winner: Travis Browne, unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt
Mark Hunt is a former K1 kickboxing star with elite striking but a losing career MMA record (against consistently high level competition). Hunt's ground game has always been his weakness but he has worked to improve that aspect of his game over time. Ben Rothwell was the most dominant heavyweight in the now defunct IFL and has fought some of the best fighters in the division. He is returning following an extended absence from the sport due to a torn ACL.
Round 1. Rothwell shoots for a takedown at the opening but Hunt defends it easily. Hunt throws a pair of hooks and backs up as Rothwell pushes forward. Rothwell looks for a takedown from distance again but can't get it. Rothwell shoots for a third time and this time he gets the takedown. Rothwell mounts Hunt quickly but Hunt gets out of that position and tries to stand up. Hunt works his way up back to his feet. Rothwell tries two additional takedowns. The first is easily blocked but Rothwell grabs a leg and comes close on the second. Hunt then lunges forward with big punches. Rothwell goes for a takedown but Hunt brushes him off and takes top position and side control. Rothwell gets back up. Rothwell is bleeding badly from the face. Rothwell gets a takedown with 30 seconds left in the round. 10-9 Hunt.
Round 2. Hunt throws a few leg kicks and blocks a Rothwell takedown attempt. Hunt takes Rothwell down and throws some solid punches from the top. He mixes in some elbows as well and works his way into side control. Hunt keeps pounding on Rothwell until Rothwell finally tries to stand back up. Hunt stops that and takes full mount. Hunt grabs Rothwell's arm and looks for an armbar as the round comes to a close. Rothwell is just barely able to survive the round and defend against the armbar. 10-8 Hunt. Rothwell had trouble getting back to his corner at the end of the round.
Round 3. Hunt opens up with big punches on an exhausted Rothwell. Rothwell can barely stand and Hunt throws a spinning elbow. Hunt takes Rothwell down, a curious decision given how exhausted Rothwell is. The referee stands them back up when there is no activity on the ground. Rothwell looks for a takedown but it is easily defended. Hunt lands a nice uppercut. Rothwell takes Hunt down briefly but Hunt works his way up and grabs Rothwell's back. They stand back up and Hunt lands a huge punch to the jaw of Rothwell. Hunt walks away like it was a knockout blow but Rothwell doesn't go down. Hunt then takes Rothwell back down. Rothwell is completely spent. Hunt is in side control but the referee stands them up. Commentator Joe Rogan heavily criticizes that decision by the referee given the dominant position. Rothwell puts his hands on his knees but Hunt tries to take him down. Rothwell blocks the takedown and gets top position to close the round. 10-9 Hunt, 30-26 Hunt. That was not an impressive showing from either man. The altitude in Denver clearly played a big role for the conditioning of two very big fighters.
Winner: Mark Hunt, unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 30-27).
Matt Hughes vs. Josh Koscheck
Hughes is one of the UFC's all time best fighters, but is on the tail end of his career. His strength is his wrestling and he also has a solid submission game, but he has always been a subpar striker. He was originally supposed to fight Diego Sanchez but Sanchez was injured and Koscheck stepped in. Koscheck has wanted to fight Hughes for years but Hughes always resisted the fight because he didn't like Koscheck and didn't want to give him the opportunity. Now on short notice he took the fight. Koscheck is a younger man with better wrestling credentials and better striking. It's a tough stylistic matchup for Hughes and Koscheck is the heavy betting favorite.
Hughes comes to the cage with the old Miletich Fighting Systems crew: Pat Miletich, Robbie Lawler and Jeremy Horn. That was one of the first elite training camps in MMA and one of the most important training camps in the evolution of the sport. Hughes has trained more with Lawler in recent years and the group coming out together is clearly meant as a statement.
Round 1. Hughes throws a few jabs to start the fight. Koscheck is mostly able to avoid them but Hughes does land one pretty well. Koscheck lunges in with hooks that move Hughes back. Hughes lands a nice left hook of his own and follows with another. Hughes throws a few jabs and a nice uppercut. Koscheck throws a few big power punches but doesn't connect. Koscheck then does land a big uppercut. Koscheck shoots for a takedown but Hughes defends it. Hughes continues throwing jabs while Koscheck is inactive. Koscheck rocks Hughes with a big book and uppercut. Koscheck then opens up with big power punches and continues with big punches and hammerfists on the ground that knock out Hughes at the close of the round. Hughes looked great early but Koscheck took over with his power.
Winner: Josh Koscheck, KO, round 1.
Hughes after the fight said he's not retiring but he's going to tell UFC to "put him on the shelf" for the time being. Hughes seemed on the version of tearing up but kept his emotions in check.
UFC Light Heavyweight Title: Jon Jones vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Jones comes from a wrestling background but has picked up striking very quickly. One of his greatest strengths is his natural size and reach, which keeps opponents off balance and allows him to attack from unique angles and in unique ways. Jackson was originally more of a wrestling based fighter but over time he has fallen in love with boxing and he utilizes primarily boxing to win these days. Jackson is also noted for having an excellent chin. Jones has a colossal 11 and a half inch reach advantage.
Round 1. Jackson stares right at Jones during instructions, while Jones just looks down. Jones comes out with one hand on the ground and then he lunges forward into a clinch. Jones throws some knees to the legs and body. Jones grabs Jackson's neck and looks for a guillotine choke but Jackson gets out. Jones throws a big elbow from close distance. Jones throws some foot stomps and looks for a trip takedown unsuccessfully. They break from the clinch two minutes in. Jones throws a high kick that Jackson defends. Jones clinches and then throws Jackson off. Jackson throws a couple looping punches that miss by a wide margin. Jones throws some heavy leg kicks and mixes in head kick attempts as well. Jones clinches again. Jackson throws a few uppercuts from close distance and Jones lands a spinning back elbow. Jones misses a wheel kick and big elbow. Jackson lunges in with big overhand punches at the close of the round but Jones nonchalantly moves out of the way. 10-9 Jones.
Round 2. Jones opens with a head kick and leg kick. Jackson charges forward with punches and they clinch again. Jones misses a spinning elbow and looks for a takedown that is defended. Jones throws a pair of side kicks to the leg. Jones lands a nice straight punch to the head. Jackson lands a hook from close enough range but doesn't follow through. They clinch again with Jones throwing knees before a separation. Jones throws a few leg kicks and baks away when Jackson moves in with punches. Jones is doing so many things and Jackson just throws the same punch combinations over and over again. That doesn't mean Jackson can't connect with a power punch but it's like one guy is playing chess and the other is playing checkers. Jones lands a few nice straight right punches and they clinch again. Jones pulls guard and looks for a triangle choke as the round comes to a close. 10-9 Jones.
Round 3. Jackson throws a leg kick at the start of the round and Jones grabs his neck. Jackson gets out of trouble. Jackson lands a couple more leg kicks. Jones keeps switching his stance from orthodox to southpaw. Jones shoots and takes Jackson down. Jones quickly takes side control and throws a couple elbows. Jones then mounts Jackson. Jones drops down punches and elbows with three minutes still left in the round. Jackson powers out back to his feet. Jackson is cut. Jones throws a few leg kicks. Jackson lunges with a couple power punches that miss. Jones lands a couple straight punches and a side kick to the knee. Jackson charges forward with big overhands and Jones just calmly moves out of the way. Jones throws a flying knee but Jackson blocks it. Jones lands a big straight punch that moves Jackson back. Jones goes for a takedown at the end of the round. The end of the round signals and Jones lifts Jackson up and then drops him back down. 10-9 Jones.
Round 4. Jones lands a few jabs and a hook. Jackson backs up as if he's hurt and Jones throws a big kick to the head that misses. I think Jackson was playing possum there. Jones takes Jackson down and throws a knee to the body. Jones takes Jackson's back and locks in a rear naked choke. Jackson taps out.
Jackson walks over and shakes Jones' hand after the fight to pay his respects.
Winner: Jon Jones, submission, round 4.

Video: School shooting in Issaquah Washington School
There were two gunmen. I talked to an officer on the scene and he said it was only one. I do believe it was 2 though, one got shot about 25 minutes into the firefight and the suspected second shooter is in custody. No bystanders or policemen were injured.
Video taken by Leif Steffny of Sammamish and posted to YouTube. Steffney said he shot the video from the Issaquah Sportmen's Club, where he works, which is located behind Issaquah High School. "Our day was going as usual with a bit of target shooting and a hunter's safety class when suddenly we got a call from the police, asking us to cease all fire," Steffney said in a message to seattlepi.com. "We immediately did and kept the police updated on what we saw from our point of view."
A man armed with two guns repeatedly opened fire near a high school where students were attending games Saturday, sending children and their parents running for cover under the bleachers before police arrived and killed him, authorities said.
Witnesses said the 51-year-old man stopped his car in the middle of a street shortly before midday and began shooting, then walked toward the nearby Clark Elementary School, occasionally stopping to fire some more.
Officers cornered him and had no choice but to shoot because he refused to drop his weapons, King County Sheriff's Office spokesman John Urquhart said. No one else was hurt.
Police ran onto the football field at nearby Issaquah High School and hustled about 120 students and fans to a safer position beneath the bleachers, witnesses said.
"A SWAT team showed up on site, fully loaded, fully geared up, just racing onto the field," said John Rudolph, a coach at the junior varsity football game.
Witnesses said they heard about 20 shots fired, but police have not confirmed that number. A shooting range is located nearby, and witnesses may have heard gunfire from that direction.
Lindsay Schumacher was walking nearby with her baby and started running when she heard the shots. A woman in a sport-utility vehicle saw her and yelled, "Get in the car!" and took her away from the gunman, she said.
"It was so close," said Dawn Hill, who was also nearby. "It was like you didn't really think it could be gunfire right behind you."
Tonya Collins said she saw the man pointing his weapon at a woman and her son as she was sitting in her car in a parking lot near the high school.
"It was surreal," she said. "He had a very weird look, obviously. ... I had the sense he could shoot me."
Urquhart said the shooting will be investigated by the King County Sheriff's Office at the request of Issaquah police.
La Liga: FC Barcelona 5-0 Atletico Madrid: Match Review
Atletico Madrid on the other hand are playing some good football as well and their expensive signing of Falcao is paying back nicely as he already grabbed 5 goals to his name and looks like in top form at the moment. He is someone Barcelona defence will have to keep an tight eye on.Bouncing back from Wednesday's draw with Valencia, FC Barcelona put on a master-class to defeat Atletico Madrid 5-0, with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick. Despite the lack of defenders and Real Madrid's earlier win, Barcelona were unplayable, and in truth, could have had much more. As it stands, FC Barcelona move on up to second place.
If you live by the sword, you die by the sword. That was applicable to Barcelona on Wednesday in the match at the Mestalla, but tonight the world witnessed yet another master-class. Starting out with a 3-4-3 formation, one could be forgiven for feeling a little anxious, especially when both Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique were on the bench.
Though it’s almost as if the team knew that us Culés were feeling on edge, and started ferociously. Sergio Busquets glanced a header wide from a corner kick, and while Tiago hit the bar for Atletico, the Blaugrana remained calm, and kept on going about their business. Unfortunately for Los Rojiblancos, Barca’s business was to destroy them.

UFC 135 Results: Jon Jones vs. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson Round One
The final fight of the night, and main event of UFC 135 is a light heavyweight championship bout, Jon "Bones" Jones vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Jones (13-1) defends his title for the first time since becoming the youngest champion in UFC history by defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128. Across the cage, "Rampage" (32-8) aims to take back his belt after stringing together four wins in five fights since losing the title to Forrest Griffin in mid-2008. Referee Josh Rosenthal oversees the action.
For more analysis follow @MMANation and @shaun_alshatti on Twitter.
ROUND 1 - Jones opens with a bizarre crouched stance before clinching with Jackson against the cage. "Rampage" reverses but Jones grabs his neck. "Bones" squares away, pushes Jackson back against the cage, and works with footstomps. Jones backs away and the two engage in the center of the Octagon. The champion clinches and tosses "Rampage" to the side. Jones is keeping his distance with a variety of kicks. One minute remains. Jackson presses forward but Jones chops him down with kicks to the lead leg. Jones pushes Jackson against the cage and releases with a big spinning elbow. "Bones" attacks, just missing a wheel kick before a brief exchange ends the round.
MMA Nation scores the round 10-9 Jones.

Vladimir Putin Russia Presidential Run: Prime Minister Announces Bid For 2012 Election
In nominating Putin on Saturday, his United Russia party also approved his proposal that President Dmitry Medvedev take over Putin's current role as prime minister. Putin took over the premiership after serving as president from 2000-2008, bowing to term limits. But he was always the more powerful figure, with Medvedev viewed as a caretaker president.
Putin's return to the presidency also is unlikely to ease Russia's dispute with the United States over the building of a European missile-defense system. Economic pressures, however, could push Putin to pursue more business-friendly policies, analysts said.

Falling Nasa Satelite Video Footage ! Falling Satellite Now May Hit North America!
NASA's dead 6-ton satellite plunged to Earth early Saturday, but more than eight hours later, U.S. space officials didn't know just where it hit. They thought the fiery fall was largely over water and the debris probably hurt no one.
The agency did not give a more specific location in a midday update on its website, which also said officials were not aware of any reports of injuries or property damage. Most of the spacecraft was believed to have burned up.
The bus-sized satellite first penetrated Earth's atmosphere somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, according to NASA and the U.S. Air Force's Joint Space Operations Center. But that doesn't necessarily mean it all fell into the sea.
NASA's earlier calculations had predicted that the 20-year-old former climate research satellite would fall over a 500-mile swath and could include land.
Because the plummet began over the ocean and given the lack of any reports of people being hit, that "gives us a good feeling that no one was hurt," but officials didn't know for certain, NASA spokesman Steve Cole told The Associated Press.
The two government agencies said the 35-foot satellite fell sometime between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday and 1:09 a.m. EDT Saturday, but with no precise time or location.
There was rampant speculation on the Internet and Twitter, much of it focusing on unconfirmed reports and even video of debris from the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite over Alberta, Canada.
Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said the spacecraft entered the atmosphere around 12:15 a.m. EDT over the coast of Washington. He said much of the debris likely fell over the Pacific Ocean, though its trajectory suggests some of it could have fallen over more heavily populated areas in the U.S. and Canada, including Portland, Ore.; Seattle; Calgary, Alberta; and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
"Pieces are falling off of this flaming fire ball, and some of it has enough momentum to go hundreds of miles," he said.
Cole said that was possible because the last track for the satellite included Canada, starting north of Seattle and then in a large arc north then south. From there, the track continued through the Atlantic south toward Africa, but it was unlikely the satellite got that far if it started falling over the Pacific.
Cole said NASA was hoping for more details from the Air Force, which was responsible for tracking debris.
But given where the satellite may have fallen, officials may never quite know precisely.
"Most space debris is in the ocean. It'll be hard to confirm," Cole said.
Some 26 pieces of the satellite representing 1,200 pounds of heavy metal had been expected to rain down somewhere. The biggest surviving chunk should be no more than 300 pounds.
UARS is the biggest NASA spacecraft to crash back to Earth, uncontrolled, since the post-Apollo 75-ton Skylab space station and the more than 10-ton Pegasus 2 satellite, both in 1979.
Russia's 135-ton Mir space station slammed through the atmosphere in 2001, but it was a controlled dive into the Pacific.
Before UARS fell, no one had ever been hit by falling space junk and NASA expected that not to change.
NASA put the chances that somebody somewhere on Earth would get hurt at 1-in-3,200. But any one person's odds of being struck were estimated at 1-in-22 trillion, given there are 7 billion people on the planet.
The satellite ran out of fuel and died in 2005. UARS was built and launched before NASA and other nations started new programs that prevent this type of uncontrolled crashes of satellite.

Watch Online gang rape video horrifies Nigerians Wow
I saw a video that has messed with my head. A rape video. One hour of five boys taking turns on a girl. So heartbreaking to watch! One woman I showed it to today cried for three hours straight…it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in my life
A female student was gang raped by five boys in Abia State University. This incident happened Tuesday August 16th , 2011. These boys raped this girl, recorded it, passed it round their friends, who then passed it round ABSU campus.
And do you know what her offense was, why this girl was raped? She supposedly insulted one of the boys…that was all.
In the rape video, which lasts for over an hour, the girl cried her eyes out and tried to fight them off in the first few minutes, after a while they subdued her; by slapping her, rough handling her, threatening to kill her and having rough sex with her. After a while she gave in and instead of fighting, she started pleading, and after her pleas fell on deaf ears, she begged them to kill her that she couldn’t take the pain anymore. These boys laughed at her, made fun of her and told her that if she didn’t co-operate, they would keep her in the room and continue raping her for two days. Then she starts mentioning names, saying ‘What did I ever do to you’, (they spoke in English and Igbo language) she mentioned at least two names.
This girl is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend, and God’s creation. You cannot do this to another human being and get away with it.
I have the video…one hour of it on my laptop, and 10 minutes of it on my phone…but the rape was more than an hour, she went through this ordeal for several hours. Uploading this video online is not an option, but I want people who can do something about this to see it.

Watch 3 Video: 'X Factor' Debut: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul Reunite At Judges' Table
While there was plenty of colorful contestants on the stage, there was also a fair share of entertainment on the judging panel too, as the American version of the hit British show launched in the U.S.
The body language and looks of agreeance, disappointment and disgust were all still there, as were the bickering, rivalry and of course, the flirtation between the judges.
Contestants;
1. Terrel Carter, 36 - Ribbon in the sky
2. Chris Rene, 28 - Young Homie 'Original!'
3. Marcus Canty, 20 - I wish
4. Ellona Santiago, 14
5. The Anser, 20-27 - Rolling in the Deep
6. Stacy Francis, 42 - Natural woman
7. Rachel Crow, 13 - Mercy
8. John Lindahl, 14 - Forget you
The X Factor is an American television singing competition originating from the United Kingdom, created by Simon Cowell and produced by SYCOtv.
The competition is open to both solo artists and groups and has no upper age limit. Each judge is assigned one of four categories—either girls between 12 and 30, boys between 12 and 30, individuals over 30, or groups (some of which may be formed from rejected soloists after the audition process).[4] Through the live shows, the judges act as mentors to their category, helping to decide song choices, styling and staging, while judging contestants from the other categories; they also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning judge. The winner stands to receive a $5 million recording contract with Epic Records.

Mike Modano retires after 21 seasons in NHL announced Wed Sep 21 2011
AP - Wed Sep 21, 2:16 PM EDT
Mike Modano (notes) is retiring after 21 seasons in the NHL.
Modano, in a phone interview Wednesday from Dallas, said he recently declined a chance to continue his career with the Vancouver Canucks .
He has 561 goals and 1,374 points, leading U.S.-born players in the league, over 20 seasons with the Dallas-Minnesota franchise and one season with his hometown Detroit Red Wings . The North Stars selected the native of Livonia, Mich., No. 1 overall in 1988. Following the franchise's move to Dallas, he helped the Stars hoist the Stanley Cup in 1999.
Modano signed with the Red Wings last year. A skate sliced a tendon in his right wrist, limiting him to 40 games and career lows with four goals and 15 points.

A Georgia judge has refused to halt the execution of death row inmate Troy Davis after a last-minute appeal by his attorneys.
Davis' attorney Brian Kammer said a Butts County Superior Court judge on Wednesday rejected an appeal by Davis.
Davis is scheduled to die today at 11am, NZ time, for the killing of off-duty Savannah officer Mark MacPhail.
His attorneys filed an appeal earlier in the day, US time, challenging ballistics evidence linking Davis to the crime and eyewitness testimony identifying Davis as the shooter. They say the evidence was "egregiously false and misleading."
Pope Benedict XVI has also weighed in, asking that Davis' life be spared.
Prosecutors have stood by their case.
Davis' lawyers have long argued Davis was a victim of mistaken identity. Prosecutors say they have no doubt that they charged the right person with the crime.
Troy Davis, the condemned inmate who convinced hundreds of thousands of people but not a single court of his innocence, waited to be executed Wednesday as his supporters held vigils outside Georgia's death row and as far away as London and Paris.
His offer to take a polygraph test was rejected. So was his request for the pardons board to give him one more hearing. His attorneys once again challenged the evidence that helped convict him of killing off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989.
Davis' supporters tried increasingly frenzied measures, urging prison workers to stay home and even posting a judge's phone number online, hoping people will press him to put a stop to the lethal injection.
"We're trying everything we can do, everything under the law," said Chester Dunham, a civil rights activist and talk show host protesting in Savannah, where MacPhail, 27, was killed.
Outside the Jackson prison that houses Georgia's death row, about 100 people gathered early Wednesday afternoon (local time) for a prayer rally. As they shouted, "Free Troy Davis!" a man in a red SUV drove by and shouted, "Kill him!"
As his last hours ticked away, an upbeat and prayerful Davis turned down an offer for a special last meal as he met with friends, family and supporters. His attorney Stephen Marsh said Davis would have spent part of that time taking a polygraph test if pardons officials had taken his offer seriously.
"He doesn't want to spend three hours away from his family on what could be the last day of his life if it won't make any difference," Marsh said.
Amnesty International says nearly 1 million people have signed a petition on Davis' behalf. His supporters include former President Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, a former FBI director, the NAACP and several conservative figures.
"I'm trying to bring the word to the young people: There is too much doubt," rapper Big Boi, of the Atlanta-based group Outkast, said at a church near the prison.
The US Supreme Court gave Davis an unusual opportunity to prove his innocence in a lower court last year, though the high court itself did not hear the merits of the case.
Ad Feedback
He was convicted in 1991 of killing MacPhail, who was working as a security guard at the time. MacPhail rushed to the aid of a homeless man who prosecutors said Davis was bashing with a handgun after asking him for a beer. Prosecutors said Davis had a smirk on his face as he shot the officer to death in a Burger King parking lot.
No gun was ever found, but prosecutors say shell casings were linked to an earlier shooting for which Davis was convicted.
Witnesses placed Davis at the crime scene and identified him as the shooter, but several of them have recanted their accounts and some jurors have said they've changed their minds about his guilt. Others have claimed a man who was with Davis that night has told people he actually shot the officer.
"Such incredibly flawed eyewitness testimony should never be the basis for an execution," Marsh said. "To execute someone under these circumstances would be unconscionable."
State and federal courts, however, have repeatedly upheld Davis' conviction. A federal judge dismissed the evidence advanced by Davis' lawyers as "largely smoke and mirrors."
"He has had ample time to prove his innocence," said MacPhail's widow, Joan MacPhail-Harris. "And he is not innocent."
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which has helped lead the charge to stop the execution, said it was considering asking President Barack Obama to intervene.
Obama cannot grant Davis clemency for a state conviction. Richard Dieter, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, said he could halt the execution by asking for an investigation into a federal issue if one exists.
Dieter considered that prospect unlikely, but dozens of protesters outside the White House called on Obama to step in. "The fact that the White House hasn't addressed this issue is completely disrespectful," college student Talibah Arnett said.
Davis is not the only US inmate scheduled to die Wednesday evening. In Texas, white supremacist gang member Lawrence Russell Brewer was headed to the death chamber for the 1998 dragging death of a black man, James Byrd Jr., one of the most notorious hate crime murders in recent US history.
Spencer Lawton, the district attorney who secured Davis' conviction in 1991, said he was embarrassed for the judicial system - not because of the execution, but because it has taken so long to carry out.
"What we have had is a manufactured appearance of doubt which has taken on the quality of legitimate doubt itself. And all of it is exquisitely unfair," said Lawton, who retired as Chatham County's head prosecutor in 2008. "The good news is we live in a civilised society where questions like this are decided based on fact in open and transparent courts of law, and not on street corners."
Conan O'Brien Looking At Nicole Scherzinger's Boobs
What on earth is wrong with you, Conan? This is the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, show some respect. They were a group that was famous for their music, not how they look! That's why everyone reading this post can totally name five Pussycat Dolls songs off the top of their head. Easy! And she was talking about becoming a host of The X Factor! How could that not be fascinating enough to keep your attention!
Really, this whole thing is so offensive. Clearly Scherzinger should switch over to hosting The Voice where artist's are respected for their talent!

Mike Tyson: Charlie Sheen Roast Youtube Video
His Comedy Central Roast was getting ready to start and Charlie Sheen could only stand by and watch his own funeral on the season opener of Two and a Half Men with replacement Ashton Kutcher. Ashton pulled in 28.7 million viewers last night but it was Mike Tyson who was doing the knocking out at Charlie’s Roast. Almost literally. Steve-O decided he would honor Charlie by getting punched in the face by Mike.
He walks away knowing he broke his nose and an audience member offers to put it back. ”I couldn’t believe it, it hurt like hell, but he managed to pop the bone right back into place,” he said. “I think my nose will actually wind up straighter than it’s been since Bam Margera broke it on the set of Jackass 3D.”

UFC Fight Night 25: Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger Preview
Ellenberger has amassed a 4-1 record in 5 appearances inside the Octagon. Most fans forget that Ellenberger impressed in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 19 back in September of 2009, narrowly losing to current UFC welterweight title contender Carlos Condit on the scorecards. At the time, Condit was unproven against better competition as he spent most of his career dominating the opposition in the WEC. In retrospect however, Condit has become one of the better welterweights in the division.
The Rocha bout has been referenced as evidence that Shields will overwhelm Ellenberger on Saturday night. Ellenberger's love affair with his hands and deficient takedown defense because of that allowed Rocha to power through his defenses. Shields isn't a vaunted striker by any means, and Ellenberger has an advantage in the power department. Like Rocha, Shields has the advantage in the grappling department. The problem? As with any Jake Shields fight, he has to get the fight to the ground.

Again Lionel Messi lifted the ball over the top of the Osasuna defense and Xavi was there, and his chip was executed perfectly. It was six, all within an hour.
